Splashy Chef’s Coat

This project was of course for burning man. I was handed a chef’s coat and a handful of random fairy lights and EL Wire from Cool Neon and asked to “do something cool”. Because this was for burning man I wanted to be sure the design could be seen from all sides. and stand up to the running around biking and dancing.

For this project I used two sets of multi-colored battery operated fairy lights, monofilament thread and 10 feet of thin EL wire from Cool Neon in aqua. and patients. All the patients. I had thought this project was going to be two feature length movies*. It ended up being 3.

My friend Dr. Shiny was kind enough to model this before it went off the to the playa. While quite a bit shorter than the 6ft tall chef this was intended for I think she wears it well.

Gutermann Invisible Thread. Tiny Mono-filament that is super curly and kind of a pain to sew with. But it is super strong and has a nice finish.

Battery operated fairy lights. The wire is two strands of lacquer coated copper. Very flexible and the LEDs have lovely diffusion.
